From the crib in hospital, many newborn children go into a baby car seat for the first time after just a few days to travel home with their parents in the car. But what is actually important if I want to transport my baby - or later a toddler - safely in the car? And what do I need to consider when using other means of transport, such as a bicycle?
In order to provide (expectant) parents or grandparents with comprehensive information, the Mönchengladbach Municipal Clinics Parents' School is offering the "Baby on Board" event on Monday, September 16, from 5.30 pm. The three police chief inspectors Beate Kampermann, Stefanie Schmidt and Miriam Weber will explain what types of child seats there are, for which child they are suitable and how to use them correctly using different models. "Unfortunately, we often find that children in cars are not strapped in properly or even not strapped in at all," reports Stefanie Schmidt. Like her two colleagues, she works as a road safety advisor for the Mönchengladbach police. She adds: "In the event of an accident, this can lead to serious injuries even at low speeds. We show this on the information evening using videos."
If you take your children with you in a child seat on the bike or in a trailer behind it, you should also familiarize yourself with the potential dangers. The three experts also have tips on cargo bikes.
Not least, the police chief inspectors will show pregnant women how to buckle up properly in the car before giving birth and why special seat belts for pregnant women are not a safe alternative to car seat belts.
Afterwards, participants can ask the speakers questions.
The event will take place in seminar room 1 of the Mother and Child Clinic. Interested (expectant) parents or grandparents can register by calling the parenting school on Mondays between 11.30 am and 12.30 pm or Tuesdays between 11.30 am and 3 pm on 02166 394 22 49. Or they can send an email to elternschule [at] sk-mg.de.
An additional appointment is planned for Monday, November 18.
