On Monday, April 17, the topping-out ceremony for the new station building at Rheydt main station took place.
The team from the city's development company (EWMG), as the client, had invited guests to the ceremony. The chairman, Dr. Ulrich Schückhaus, welcomed numerous representatives of the institutions and companies involved in the construction and, of course, the future tenants. Among those present were Mönchengladbach's Lord Mayor Felix Heinrichs and Police Commissioner Mathis Wiesselmann. Interested journalists from local media also came to report on the topping-out ceremony.
A crane first hoisted the decorated topping-out crown into the air in front of the new building. Master roofer Sandra Olland then had the honor of delivering the topping-out speech. In it, she thanked the builder and everyone involved in the traditional manner and asked for God's blessing on the new building. Afterwards, the group moved to the lower interior of the building shell. There, Lord Mayor Felix Heinrichs welcomed those present in a short speech and expressed his thanks to those involved in the construction. He then handed over to Ulrich Schückhaus, who also thanked all the craftsmen, private helpers, the planners and, of course, the construction companies for their support.
Ulrich Schückhaus made it clear at the meeting that the construction work is on schedule. The client will therefore be able to hand over the more than 1,700 square meters of rental space for the new police station in Rheydt to the Mönchengladbach police in the first quarter of 2024. However, it is expected to take until September 2024 before the final move.
In total, the building complex comprises four retail spaces of different sizes on the first floor with a total of around 420 square meters, with a further 1,000 square meters of office space available on the upper floors.
In the next few weeks, roof, façade and electronics work as well as the interior fit-out will be carried out in the building complex. At the same time, further tenants are being sought for the vacant retail and service space. These are due to move in from the second quarter of 2024.
